Before earning his MA in Counseling from UMKC, Chris worked as a teacher within the Olathe and Shawnee Mission school districts for 15 years. There, he saw a need for area therapists who were willing to work with youth. Wanting to help meet this need, Chris returned to school and earned his counseling degree with an emphasis in Couples and Family counseling, knowing the importance of incorporating the family system when working with youth. He utilizes this training alongside his years of experience working with children and teens of all ages to create a therapeutic atmosphere that is both safe and inviting for young clients.
Beyond working with youth, Chris enjoys meeting with clients from all walks of life. Utilizing mainly Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), he views life as a big journey. He believes people often have a destination in mind they are hoping to reach; they just need help finding the best way to achieve that goal. We all encounter many roadblocks along life’s way, and we often need help navigating our way around these challenges. Using trauma informed practices and an empathetic ear, Chris enjoys coming alongside others when they feel stuck or hopeless and helping them along the next part of their journey.
