Neurodivergence

You Don’t Have to Figure Yourself Out Alone

If you’re neurodivergent, or wondering if you might be, you may have spent years trying to understand why certain things feel harder for you than they seem to for others. You might be navigating anxiety, depression, relationships, overwhelm, burnout, or simply trying to better understand the way your brain and body respond to the world. Whatever brings you to therapy, you don’t have to have the right words or a clear explanation for what you’re experiencing.

At Heartland Therapy Connection, we take a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the whole person, including the ways neurodivergence, life experiences, relationships, and mental health can intersect. We won’t try to fit you into a box or assume that one approach works for everyone. Instead, we’ll work together to understand your experiences, build on your strengths, and find strategies that actually fit your life.

A Trauma-Informed Approach to Neurodivergence

Understanding yourself can be an important part of therapy. Whether you’re seeking support around Autism, ADHD, giftedness, or simply trying to make sense of your experiences, our goal is to create a space where you can feel understood rather than judged, and supported rather than expected to simply “try harder.”

Meeting You Where You Are

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, exploring your options, or somewhere in between, we start with where you are right now. There’s no pressure to change faster than feels right for you.

Multiple Pathways

Growth and self-understanding look different for everyone. We explore different approaches to help you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, navigate challenges, and find what works for your life.

Trauma-Informed Care

We understand that neurodivergence and past experiences can intersect in complex ways. We look at the whole person and consider how your experiences, environment, relationships, and nervous system may shape the challenges you’re facing.

No Shame, No Labels

This is a space free from judgment. We don’t reduce you to a diagnosis or dismiss your experiences. You’re a whole person with a unique brain, history, strengths, and challenges.

Finding What Helps

We focus on reducing the impact that stress, overwhelm, and other challenges may have on your life, whether that shows up in relationships, work, daily routines, or emotional well-being. Small changes can make a meaningful difference.

Building Self-Understanding

We help you explore what you want to understand, change, or work toward in your life without imposing expectations on what that should look like. It’s okay to feel uncertain. Together, we can explore what matters to you and what steps feel meaningful.

This Might Be For You If…

You’re Not Sure What’s Going On

Maybe you’ve always felt different, but you’re not sure why. We can help you explore whether neurodivergence may be part of the picture.

You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

Noise, social situations, emotions, or changes in routine can sometimes feel like too much. We can help you understand what’s contributing to that overwhelm.

You’re Struggling With Daily Life

Work, school, relationships, or everyday routines may feel harder than they should. Together, we can explore what might help things feel more manageable.

You Want to Better Understand Yourself

You may want to understand your patterns, strengths, or challenges in a new way. Therapy can help you develop greater self-awareness without judgment.
